Otley walking festival 'is a success'
16 July 2008
Otley Walking Festival 2008 has been hailed as a resounding success, after around 1 200 ramblers took part in the event.
The Wharfedale Observer reports that the festival, which featured walks varying in length from 16.5 miles to gentle strolls, was the ‘best ever’ in its history.
Chairman of the festival Ruth Blackwell told the paper that the event comprised 44 walks and events that were designed to appeal to all ages and abilities.
She added: ‘Special features were the themed day and evening walks which combined walking with a special aspect of the environment’.
Furthermore, lovers of outdoor activity were also told what makes the Otley Conservation Areas unique as they took a stroll around the site.
The event is designed to help local people take part in fitness walking as well as explore the area in which they live.
It is run by volunteers and all of the walks are free to take part in, while donations are welcome.
Although the festival is over, Otley still remains a top walking destination for ramblers to visit.
