Holidays in walking hot spot boosted by film tourism

Holidaymakers are increasingly taking breaks in the North Yorkshire Moors, thanks to a new phenomenon dubbed film tourism, one expert has said.

This is according to the Tourism Business, the UK's first marketing agency for the film and television tourism sector, which made the claim, adding that this trend is boosting holidays on home soil in general.

Martin Evans, from the Tourism Business, highlighted the village of Goathland, which is situated north of Pickering in the North Yorkshire Moors, and features in the long running TV show Heartbeat®.

According to Walking Britain, the North Yorkshire Moors National Park combines ‘dramatic coastal scenery’ with ‘beautiful rural’ areas, as well as traditional villages for ramblers to explore.

It adds that the park's ‘well-developed’ footpath network means that the area provides ramblers with a range of walks to choose from.

One of the Yorkshire Moors' best known walks is the Cleveland Way National Trail, which is 110 miles long and provides ramblers with a challenging route that allows them to see a mix of the park's scenery.
