Walkers to get a historical treat in Morpeth
21 July 2008
The Castle Morpeth Riverside Walking Festival will take place in October for the fourth year and will feature a number of organised rambles around the local area.
Walking Pages reports that the event will be run in the month's half-term week this year under the theme of Something for Everyone.
To honour this theme, there will be a selection of rambles tailored to all ranges of abilities as well as walks suitable for those with wheelchairs and visual impairments.
Many of the rambles will take festival-goers to the eponymous Morpeth Castle, which is a Grade One listed building that was built in the 11th century.
Another site the festival visits is Carlisle Park, where there is an orienteering challenge for young children.
Last year some of the festival's highlights included a circular walk from Longhirst around the old Butterwell opencast mine site and a 7-kilometre walk around the woods near Heddon.
