Scotland's 'biggest mass bike ride' set to take place
27 August 2008
Scotland is getting ready for what is claimed to be its largest mass-participation biking trip.
Pedal for Scotland, which is to take place on Sunday 14 September, is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary, reports Cycling in Scotland.
The biking trail runs 47.5 miles, from Glasgow to Edinburgh, and attracts a mix of participants, from those simply enjoying the scenery offered by the cycling tour to others seeking to beat their best time.
As a result, the biking trip is said to be suitable for all fitness levels and there are regular rest stops along the route.
The biking event's charity partner is Leukaemia Research and organisers report that the cycling tour attracts thousands of participants every year.
Children as young as six-years-old and adults aged 70 have taken part in the biking event in previous years, with no limits on who can take part.
Meanwhile, Glasgow City Council is developing a cycling track network which comprises 375 kilometres of identified routes, with an aim to complete it by 2012.
