Pendennis Castle

Bank holiday Tudor joust in Cornwall

Family fun day out set for historic castle in Cornwall.

A spectacular jousting event is being held this bank holiday weekend at Pendennis Castle in Cornwall, English Heritage® has reported.

Families taking out their Ordnance Survey maps and heading off for motoring holidays in the UK may be tempted to witness what is thought to be one of the first Tudor jousting events to be held since Henry VIII was on the throne.

The two days of fun, which are to take place Sunday 24 and Monday 25 August, will include all manner of royal pomp and pageantry, such as horsemanship and falconry displays.

Highlight of the day – when two fully armoured knights will battle it out in a joust – is scheduled to take place twice a day, at 11.30 am and 3.30 pm.

Additional pay-and-display car parking will be available in the town, around 10 minutes' walk away from the event, or at Gyllyngvase Beach, 5–8 minutes along Cliff Road, behind the beach.

Entry prices are £8 for adults, £6 for concessions, £4 for children, with family tickets priced at £20.

Pendennis Castle, which was built by Henry VIII to defend against possible attack from France and Spain, occupies an impressive coastal setting, with views of Falmouth and the Fal Estuary.
