Ramblers take to London bridges
27 June 2008
Ramblers will be exploring the bridges of London that span the River Thames and its estuaries next month.
On 6 July the London Bridges Walk event will take place, beginning at Potters Field, near Tower Bridge, and travelling for 7 miles around the capital, reports the Ramblers' Association.
Various bridges will be crossed during the event and ITN reporter Nick Owen will be present on the day to help out with announcements and boost moral.
Entrance will cost £8 per person in advance and £10 to register on the day. All funds raised will go towards sponsoring Kidney Research UK.
The charity says the walk, which is estimated to take between two and three hours to complete, was its most profitable last year, with 160 000 participants raising £120 000 for those who suffer from kidney illnesses.
A similar fund-raiser is being organised in Cheshire on the same day, for those who cannot make it to the London event.
The Chester Bridges Walk is a two-mile ramble that will begin at the Little Roodee car park and cross the Old Dee and Suspension Bridge as well as take participants on a stroll through the Groves.
