30 July 2008
The Outer Hebrides in Scotland is in with holidaying Brits this summer, new research has revealed.
According to an online survey conducted by national tourism organisation VisitScotland, a trip to the Outer Hebrides was the fourth most popular place for Liverpudlians to holiday in Scotland and also featured in Londoners' top ten, reports the Stornoway Gazette.
The popular destination offers visitors the chance to take part in a range of outdoor activities, such as kayaking (Mancunians' fourth favourite holiday pursuit) and taking a beach ramble, which favoured well with residents of York.
VisitScotland's Strategic Relations Executive, Lorna MacLennan, told the paper: ‘It's great to see so many Outer Hebrides activities featuring in people's top-ten choices.
‘From island hopping by kayak to strolling along pristine golden beaches, the Hebrides have it all!’
Tourism body VisitHebrides describes the area as ‘standing majestically at the north west edge of Europe’ and featuring a host of beaches, culture and wildlife.
It adds that the Hebrides is a ‘haven for outdoor activities and a great place to unwind’.
