Old map is recreated in Liverpool
26 November 2007
An enthusiastic Liverpudlian has created maps showing the city's port just before a historic rebellion, according to new reports.
Jean Grant has designed an information pamphlet and map that tells visitors about Liverpool's historic past and gives them the opportunity to embark on walking trails around the main historic hot spots, reports the Liverpool Daily Post.
Ms Grant, who is now seeking sponsorship to distribute the pamphlets throughout schools and households across the city, spoke to the paper about the project.
She said: ‘We have called the pamphlet “Bridging the Gap” because understanding the history and geography of the city is important to making the planning decisions of tomorrow’.
Liverpool is expected to receive an influx of visitors next year, who may benefit from the pamphlet, as it will be the European Capital of Culture 2008.
During the year the city will host the MTV Europe Music Awards, the Turner Exhibition Prize and will set up the 2008 Business Connection project, which allows local businesses to club together and receive benefits from the city being 2008's European Capital of Culture.
