Breathtaking views on a guided walk
29 August 2007
Visitors to Northumberland National Park in September are being encouraged to take part in a guided walk with breathtaking views.
The walk, through the beautiful Simonside Hills near Rothbury, takes place on 21 September.
Participants will be able to discover more about the ancient paths in the area and see prehistoric features and the remains of Iron Age shelters.
The sandstone ridge and heather moorland of Simonside is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest – and walkers will get the chance to learn about the area’s huge diversity of wildlife, including merlins, red squirrels and the rare mountain bumblebee.
Less-experienced walkers needn’t worry: the day will be led by a guide who will take care to adapt the pace to suit everyone.
The total distance walked is set to be between three and four miles – and the day out costs just £2 for adults and £1 for children and concessions.
