Mountain bike trail in ‘Lakes’ gets the green light
13 December 2007
Building work for a mountain bike trail in the Lake District has been given the green light this month.
Planners at the Lake District National Park Authority gave the £500 000 trail the go-ahead at a meeting last Tuesday, it has been revealed.
Since this meeting, Altura® – Zyro’s clothing brand – has been announced as the official sponsor of the Whinlatter mountain bike trail, which is due for completion in summer 2008.
The Forestry Commission has also welcomed the decision to approve the new cycling trail.
Graeme Prest, Forest Management Director for The Forestry Commission, said: ‘We’re delighted that these new facilities will now be developed at Whinlatter.
‘Thousands of people who visit the forest go mountain biking, but up to now there has been no purpose-built bike trail.’
At 19 kilometres long, the trail will be the longest purpose-built mountain biking route in the Lake District and will involve the construction of 15 kilometres of new single track.
Altura is a registered trademark of Zyro Ltd.
