Harvest-tide ramble for the environment
03 October 2007
A harvest-tide ramble to raise awareness of local environmental issues is planned for October in Crewe and Nantwich.
The public are being asked to join members of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) on Sunday 14 October for the ramble.
The walk across the borough will include an exploration of two of Cheshire’s most interesting churches.
CPRE member Reverend John Whitehead, who is organising the walk, commented on the event to This is Cheshire: ‘This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the architecture of two unusual churches and to learn more about the rural communities they served, and the traditions of harvest-tide’.
CPRE is an organisation that campaigns for ‘a sustainable future for the English countryside’. It works at national, regional and local levels with other campaigning organisations and the government.
In May this year the famed American author Bill Bryson was named as the next president of CPRE; he made his inaugural speech in July.
