New cycle path in Somerset
16 August 2007
Over the last three weeks a new cycle path has been created in the north Somerset region.
The new cycling and walking route runs from Flax Bourton and runs between Backwell Bow and Farleigh Green, reports bikeradar.com.
Over 80 people were involved in the creation of the cycle path as was the charity Sustrans®, which helped to build the 1.3-mile traffic-free path.
Judith Pope, organiser of the new cycle path, said more than 30 miles of the National Cycle Network had been built by the charity.
She added: ‘Work camps are something we do annually. We go around the UK. This one was great because it was near our offices in Bristol, so our staff could get involved.
‘The camp was brilliant. Local people were walking by and giving us chocolates and cider! We had about 80 volunteers working over three weeks. The first week was pretty bad because of the rain. Even now the ground is still soft from it all.’
The Cerne Abbas Giant is a popular tourist attraction and is situated in the neighbouring county of Dorset.
Sustrans is a registered trademark of Sustrans Ltd.
