Map lovers brave the rain
02 August 2007
Despite the wet and windy weather we’ve endured over the past month or two, map lovers have continued to take part in their favourite outdoor pursuits.
This summer the top UK destinations for walking, cycling, rock climbing and horse riding have all enjoyed an influx of visitors who haven’t been put off by the inclement weather!
People who love getting out in the fresh air to explore with a map often see wet weather as a perfect opportunity to enjoy their favourite spots. Rain often keeps the crowds indoors!
Maps aren’t just a helpful tool for getting from A to B. Map lovers enjoy spending hours poring over their favourite OS Landranger Map or OS Explorer Map looking for new landmarks and routes.
Trevor Fishlock, whose programme Fishlock’s Sea Stories has taken him all over Wales, home to many stunning destinations, said this of his love of maps:
‘I think learning to read a map is a very underrated skill and one more people should have. I know there are people like myself who are obsessed with maps and take great pleasure in looking at them and collecting them.
‘The Ordnance Survey maps are among the best in the world and we are lucky to have them. There is nothing I like more than getting a map out and planning my next walk.’
