Bradford to get new bridge for walkers and cyclists

Connect2 will build a new bridge in Bradford for pedestrians and cyclists, it has been announced.

The project is one of 79 schemes on which Sustrans® will embark on now it has won a £50 million grant from the National Lottery.

In order to help the local residents of Bradford get around the city more easily, the new bridge will be erected over Manchester Road in the city centre.

Chief Executive of local backers of the scheme Bradford Trident, Steve Hartley, was delighted with the result.

He said: ‘The funding will provide a fantastic new bridge and improve links across the area from the city centre to the Spen Valley Greenway and beyond’.

Schemes all around the UK will now be undertaken to help local residents get to shops, schools and their places of work without getting into their cars.

In the south-west of England a project has been given the green light in Ottery St Mary for a new bridge over a local river, which will enable pupils to reach the local school more easily.

Tintern in Wales is to receive a bridge over the River Wye to connect it with England, and in Dumfries in Scotland two railway paths via the Nith Viaduct will be connected.
