Campaign seeks safer roads
18 May 2007
A campaign supported by a number of private and voluntary organisations is fighting for safer roads in the UK.
The Make Roads Safe campaign aims to raise awareness of the grave human and economic consequences of road accidents.
The campaign, which has an international reach, is coordinated in the UK by the RAC® and FIA™ Foundations and backed by organisations that include RoSPA, the British Red Cross, PACTS, Roadsafe, Transaid®, and steel manufacturer Corus®.
Philippe Varin, Chief Executive of Corus, said: ‘We are delighted to offer our support for this worthwhile campaign. For Corus, safety is the first priority.
‘Make Roads Safe should be applauded for challenging government and industry alike to work towards making roads around the world safer today, and anything we can do to highlight this issue to our employees is welcomed.’
Make Roads Safe is calling on the UN to hold a summit in support of increased funding from governments for injury prevention on the roads.
