DfT launches green motoring website
02 August 2007
The Department for Transport (DfT) has launched a new website, offering consumers advice on the ‘greenest’ cars on the market.
The website, which lists the top 10 CO2 emitters by What Car? categories, was launched this week at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ (SMMT) headquarters in central London.
It is the latest in a series of government measures intended to promote greener motoring in the UK.
In July 2005 a new colour-coded environmental car label, which featured green to red banding, was launched. It also features details of annual running costs through fuel duty and road tax.
Christopher Macgowan, Chief Executive of the SMMT, said of the latest DfT scheme: ‘We welcome this initiative. Consumers need to make the connection between choosing the most CO2-efficient cars and lower-cost motoring.
‘They also need to be clear on the practical steps to be taken to limit their carbon footprint in action, whatever vehicle they drive.’
