Easier guide to Scottish heritage sites
03 August 2007
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has launched a service that should make it easier for landowners to find out about natural heritage sites near their land. Site Link is an online service designed for farmers, land managers and other interested parties.
It includes an easy-to-access, detailed electronic map that shows land managers the boundaries of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Natura sites (protected natural habitats).
The site allows users to zoom in on any area of Scotland using a number of pieces of information, including farm codes, grid references, postcodes or place names.
Peter Beattie of SNH explained that a wide range of people would benefit from Site Link.
He said: ‘Site Link has been developed with input from local staff and will save SNH’s customers and staff time and effort by making up-to-date information on SSSI’s, Natura sites etc instantly available online’.
Natura sites are a European network of sites that represent areas of outstanding natural habitats and rare, endangered or vulnerable plants and animals.
