York tipped as top holiday destination
05 March 2008
York is being promoted as one of England's best holiday destinations in an exhibition this week.
VisitBritain's British Travel Trade Fair will take place in Birmingham this week and is the centrepiece of British Tourism Week, which aims to persuade Brits to holiday on home soil.
The York Tourism Bureau, along with 350 other UK tourist boards, will be exhibiting at the event, which is expected to attract 2 500 visitors from around the world.
Earlier this week, lastminute.com® reported that UK holidays are becoming more popular with Brits who are trying to cut their carbon footprints.
John Bevan, Managing Director of lastminute.com UK, said: ‘The UK is becoming increasingly popular for us and our product is reflecting that.
‘Our customers are increasingly concerned by environmental issues and they offset their flights when booking flights.’
He added lastminute.com's carbon offsetting scheme, 'carbonwise™', has been a big hit for the online tour operator, with over one in ten of its customers choosing to take advantage of the scheme.
lastminute.com is a registered trademark and carbonwise is a trademark of Last Minute Network Ltd.
