Brits planning to check out domestic attractions this Easter
20 March 2008
A record number of British people are expected to visit domestic attractions this Easter weekend instead of jetting off to foreign destinations.
Recent years have seen more and more people take advantage of cheap flights to spend the four-day Easter break abroad, but economic uncertainty, environmental concerns and a growing interest in what is on their own doorsteps is encouraging many Brits to stay on their own shores this year.
Top attractions
The AA® has suggested that the top attractions this weekend are likely to be:
• Alton Towers
• Drayton Manor® in Staffordshire
• Longleat® in Wiltshire
• Thorpe Park in Surrey
• Legoland® in Windsor, Berkshire.
Also expected to be popular, the AA said, are the resorts of
• Brighton
• Bournemouth
• Blackpool, as well as;
• Oxford and Cambridge.
Tom Wright, Chief Executive of VisitBritain, said: ‘The current economic outlook could mean British resorts are bracing themselves for bumper visitor numbers this Easter.
‘There's a real opportunity this year for Brits to rediscover what's on their own doorstep – just make sure you leave enough time to get there.’
