UK popular for St Patrick's Day
13 March 2008
Those looking to take in the St Patrick's Day festivities need look no further than London and Glasgow, according to one expert.
A spokesperson for Tourism Ireland said that both cities stage their own celebrations on the weekend of 15 to 16 March.
Glasgow's Merchant City is the location of its own St Patrick's Day festival, which boasts a ‘traditional Irish village setting’ and the sounds of a ceilidh band, the expert stated.
Meanwhile, in London, the Mayor's annual St Patrick's Day parade and festival, which takes place on 16 March, will see Irish music and dance in Trafalgar Square.
‘Gourmets will flock to Covent Garden to sample the best of Irish food and drink and Leicester Square will host a giant ceilidh,’ she added.
In Belfast, Northern Ireland, St Patrick's Day will see a parade and concert take place in the city centre.
