Outdoor activities recommended for spring by Outdoors Magic.
27 March 2008
A selection of rambling and camping activities has been recommended for those who are wanting to get outdoors this spring.
Specialist website www.outdoorsmagic.com suggests trying an area less travelled, such as the Duddon Valley in the Lake District, the ‘quiet and brooding’ Forest of Bowland in Preston or the Cheviots in Northumberland, for those who are seeking ‘proper remote-feeling moors walking’.
The site also advocates camping as the weather gets warmer: ‘If you've never been wild camping, you haven't lived’.
It continues: ‘There's something brilliantly life-affirming about pitching your tent in the wilds and then unzipping your tent door in the morning to find yourself surrounded by towering mountains’.
For those who consider themselves a little bit more adventurous, the site also suggests trading in rambling for scrambling.
Scrambling involves following what are essentially walking routes, but this time using your hands as well as your feet to scale the track.
Beginners routes can be found at Striding Edge in the Lake District or at Tryfans North Ridge in Snowdonia.
