Roam in Loughborough and see the town 'afresh'
05 March 2008
Locals are being invited to roam with a team of six artists in Loughborough this month and see the town afresh.
Guided walks will see ramblers follow an animated US tumbleweed around the town's streets with Clare Blundell Jones and retracing the steps of the infamous Luddites with Tim Brennan.
Those who opt to take a walk on the wild side with Duncan Speakman will get the opportunity to inhabit a movie, where the walker is the performer and the set will look familiar.
For those interested in getting healthy, Active Ingredients' 'heartlands walk is described as part-game and part-exercise.
During the walk participants will carry hand-held mobile devices to monitor their heart rates, while competing to out-walk fellow ramblers.
The walking events will kick-off on Saturday 15 March and continue until Monday 17 March.
Attendance on all the walks is free, but many have a limited capacity, so keen ramblers are advised to book ahead.
Organisers advise that all participants wear suitable clothing and footwear…and, of course, bring a brolly in case of rain.
For those who are interested in walking in other areas of the country, there is at least 140 000 miles of off-road public rights of way recorded on official maps in England and Wales, says the Countryside Agency.
