Hot air at outdoors event in Bristol
30 May 2008
England's largest outdoor event will be getting some hot air under it this summer, as revellers head to Bristol for the spectacle.
Between 7 and 10 August the Discovery Channel's International Balloon Fiesta will take place at Ashton Court Estate, featuring 150 hot air balloons.
Offering families a wealth of outdoor activities to make the most of, event organisers anticipate that nearly half a million visitors will descend on the event.
What is more, for those looking for a fun family day that won't cost the bank, this event is entirely free to attend.
Event organisers say: ‘From early morning to late in the evening visitors can enjoy shows and displays, including jousting, funfairs and field-gun demonstrations as well as live music with a top line-up of pop stars’.
At the end of the day over 100 balloons will depart from wherever the wind takes them, and then after sunset a ‘nightglow’ firework display will round off the festivities.
The event was founded in 1978 and has become increasingly popular over the years, attracting revellers from all over the country.
Ashton Court Estate is located 2 miles from the centre of Bristol and is surrounded by the Somerset countryside, making it the perfect spot for some walking adventures.
