Diplomats keen to explore the UK
11 March 2008
A number of diplomats from across the world have listed some of the UK's attractions they would like to see.
In a survey conducted by VisitBritain to celebrate the start of Tourism Week, Dutch ambassador Pieter Willem Waldeck said that he would like to visit York, the Yorkshire Post® reports.
The newspaper noted that Danish ambassador Birger Riis-Jorgenson said he would enjoy cycling between Norwich and York.
Other locations that proved popular with the diplomatic community were Bath, Cumbria, Cornwall and Stratford-upon-Avon.
Tom Wright, Chief Executive of VisitBritain, said that the findings showed that those in the diplomatic services enjoy travelling around the UK.
‘Like many people, they have discovered the appeals of heritage sites and historic buildings, of exploring our stunning countryside and cinematic landscapes or taking a break in contemporary cities,’ he remarked.
British Tourism Week was launched today by the Prince of Wales and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
