Sheffield park has wood bonanza

The South Yorkshire Forest partnership is bringing its Wood Fair back to Sheffield again this month.

The annual event, which is an unusual family day out, gives locals an opportunity to learn about biodiversity in their area.

This year the fair will be held at Endcliffe Park in Hunters Bar on 6 October.

All things wooden will be featured at the event, including traditional crafts, big woodland machinery and even chainsaw artists.

Workshops, demonstrations and competitions for all ages will also be running throughout the day, as well as a beer garden to relax in.

A pyrotechnic spectacular will round off the day, which the event organisers describe metaphorically as when ‘the Queen of the Forest leaves her summer palace and awakens the spirits of the autumn’.

The event, which promises to be a good day out for all the family, aims to raise awareness of the organisation's vision for over 200 square miles of diverse rural and urban landscapes in the area.

The South Yorkshire Forest Partnership is a joint initiative with England's Community Forests aimed at regenerating and revitalising the green space around major towns and cities in the country.

There are 12 Community Forests in England all taking steps to improve health, well-being and quality of life throughout their communities.
