Some 20% of Brits to holiday in the UK
29 August 2007
Some 20% of Britons are expected to holiday in the UK in the last week of August and the first week of September.
This is according to research by Visit Britain, the UK’s national tourism agency.
These numbers will be boosted by the ‘positive weather’ expected during the period, a spokesperson for the agency commented.
Elliott Frisby also explained that the UK has a hugely diverse range of attractions.
He said: ‘Certainly, you only have to look at when we do get nice hot weather, people do flock to the beaches and to the seaside, but also out to the countryside to go walking and take advantage of water sports in Newquay and places like that.
‘But some places are not weather-dependent at all: indoor attractions still do very well and I'm sure the free museums and galleries throughout the country will also do well.’
According to Visit Britain, tourism is one of the largest industries in the UK, accounting for 3.5% of the UK economy and worth approximately £85 billion in 2005.
