Poetry festival in Suffolk
29 October 2007
Poets are preparing their finest verses to read at an annual poetry festival in Suffolk.
A great day out for fans of literature, the 19th Aldeburgh Poetry Festival will take place between 2 and 4 November at various venues around the town.
Festival organisers said: ‘We must keep the lines of communication open. And how better to do this than through poems…the most condensed and expansive use of language we have?
‘To discover contemporary poetry at its most vital and revitalising, Aldeburgh is always the place to be for the first weekend each November. For two and a half days this small seaside town is open to the world.’
Over thirty ‘outstanding’ poets will participate in 50 events, 16 of which are free, and visitors to the event can enjoy an ‘abundance of ideas, connections and pleasures’.
There will be readings at the festival from Jerwood Aldeburgh Poets, poet Anne Stevenson and former BBC® producer Ariane Koek.
Festival goers will also be able to take part in a poetry quiz, which is billed as ‘the most serious and hilarious poetry challenge of the year’.
