Orienteering events promote Scottish Six Days
22 May 2007
A series of map-reading events have been held to promote the upcoming international orienteering event, the Scottish Six Days.
Yesterday Grantown-on-Spey held a 'Street Challenge' to promote the event, which will be held in August.
Participants received a large full-colour map of Grantown showing the streets and the surrounding woodlands, according to the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald, as well as information about orienteering and the August international event.
Arranged by Badenoch and Strathspey Orienteering Club (BASOC), the challenge follows a similar event held in Kingussie in April.
It made use of a new, full-colour map prepared by BASOC member Allan Goodall. It was organised by Ross MacLennan, formerly the administrator for the National Orienteering Centre at Glenmore Lodge.
The Scottish Six Days is expected to bring in at least 3 500 visitors to the Strath from 5–11 August.
The event is held every two years in late July or early August.
