Llandudno, north Wales

Welsh lighthouse is in ‘top five hotels’

A transformed Welsh lighthouse has been named one of the world's top five converted hotels.

The lighthouse, which was originally built in the style of a fortress in 1862 using limestone and Canadian pine, was praised by the travel website that compiled the list, TripAdvisor™, for its Victorian dining room.

Overlooking a 100-metre vertical drop, the dining room serves a ‘renowned traditional Welsh breakfast’ to keep its guests happy.

The hotel is also located within Great Orme Country Park and close to the Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno, making the hotel a great place to stay for those looking for an active holiday.

Ian Rumgay, European Communications Manager for TripAdvisor, said: ‘Innovative and unusual, hotel conversions are becoming increasingly popular.

‘Travellers tell us the best conversions are those that retain the theme and atmosphere of the building’s original use and seamlessly integrate it with amenities and services expected of a contemporary hotel.’

A night at the former lighthouse costs around £73 per person.
