Wakefield's Festival of Fire heats up
29 October 2007
Wakefield's Festival of Fire and Light season is set to illuminate the Yorkshire city.
Thousands of visitors are expected at Thornes Park on Saturday 3 November for a bonfire and firework display, for which nearly 10 000 people turned out last year.
Starting at 19.00, the event will include roadshow entertainment, fire eating, light twirling and a host of fairground-style stalls.
Clive Hudson, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, said: ‘Wakefield's only official bonfire and firework display is a spectacular and impressive event, which is always popular with citizens and visitors alike.
‘I'm sure our Festival of Fire and Light, which continues with the Christmas light switch on in November, will be enjoyed by everyone.’
A number of other bonfire night celebrations are being held around the UK, with 13 different events taking place across the city of Newcastle alone.
Six separate bonfires are being organised in Manchester and one spectacular fireworks display will take place at King’s Dock in Liverpool, where fireworks will be launched from a moored barge exploding in time to synchronised music.
