
National Trust celebrates local farm produce

Many National Trust sites provide an excellent day out for tourists, but what many people don't know is that they also make some high-quality farm produce.
The trusts' farms, orchards and gardens make over 19 products, including jam, apple juice and lamb, and the best of these goods were celebrated this year in the National Trust's Fine Farm Produce 2007 awards.
Designed to recognise the high environmental animal welfare standards and high production methods of the "great tasting food and drink", the awards come at a time when people are increasingly looking to buy local and seasonal produce.
Rob Macklin, head of agriculture at the National Trust, said: "The Fine Farm Produce award has been designed to recognise the very best produce from National Trust land.
"At a time when there is a growing appetite for local food, shoppers want to know more about the place the food and drink they are buying comes from. The Fine Farm Produce Award does just that, giving consumers confidence in the origin of the food and drink, its production methods and quality."
Many people who visit National Trust sites are taking the time to find out about the produce which the sites sell and take locally prepared goods home with them as a memento of their day out.
