English Heritage® offers unique holiday ideas
Government advisory body on the historic environment is offering unique holiday ideas for Brits heading off over the autumn and winter seasons.
The organisation has a number of historic buildings that UK holidaymakers can hire, including Witeley Court, Pendennis Castle and Mount Grace Priory.
English Heritage said: ‘Each [location] has a story to tell– its past inextricably linked with a historic house, a fortified castle or a great estate’.
One such destination is St. Mawes Castle in Cornwall, which was built on the order of Henry VIII in the mid 16th century and looks out across the Fal estuary. Set in the country, this is an ideal location for walking breaks. The National Maritime Museum is also nearby in Falmouth as well as the Eden Project, which displays two giant biomes of biodiversity.
Osborne House in the Isle of Wight is another historic location that the English Heritage offers those interested in English holidays the chance to visit. The Isle of Wight was a favourite of Queen Victoria and, following her marriage to Prince Albert in 1840, she said that ‘it is impossible to imagine a prettier spot’ after visiting the property.
