Holidaymakers hit the roads
24 August 2007
Over 9 million Britons are motoring to their holiday destinations this year, according to new research.
The study, by motor insurance company Zurich®, found that many are making the trip across the Channel by car rather than choosing air travel.
Of those Britons choosing driving holidays, 52% said convenience was the main deciding factor. Some 32% cited overall cost considerations, while environmental concerns and the risk of airport delays and security checks also featured prominently.
UK destinations topped the list of most popular destinations, with beautiful Devon and Cornwall both being the choice of 16% of respondents.
However, many motorists were found to be more adventurous.
Almost a quarter of drivers said they were prepared to make epic drives of over 750 miles to get to their destinations, while 15% said they were happy to spend 15 hours or more getting there.
