Regeneration for Cotswold Water Park

A complete regeneration is planned for Cotswold Water Park, it has been revealed today.

The Cotswold Water Park Society has announced it wants to revitalise the leisure and conservation attraction and create an American-style national park, with improved walks, lakes and sports facilities.

To realise these plans, the society has split into two divisions – charitable work and trading – and private-sector partners have been drawn in to improve profitability.

Dennis Grant, Chief Executive of the Society, told This is Gloucestershire®: ‘Every operation [in the park] is now profitable or breaking even. I want to be able to drive my grandchildren through the park one day and say I made a difference.’

He added that partnership would be key to the success of the development.

Cotswold Water Park was established in 1967 by Gloucestershire and Wiltshire County Councils together with Cotswold and North Wilts District Council.

The park is divided into three parts: the western section stretching from Poole Keynes to Somerford Keynes, the central section crossing the A419 between Cerney Wick to Down Ampney and the eastern section, including villages Kempsford and Lechlade.

Around 20 000 people live in the park’s 14 settlements, 13 000 people work in 850 businesses related to the park and it receives more than 500 000 visitors per year.
