Claverton Manor celebrates American art
31 October 2007
Claverton Manor near Bath will be displaying a collection of American-style Christmas jewels this festive season.
The manor house, which overlooks the Avon Valley, is the only dedicated museum of Americana in the UK, and from 24 November to 16 December will be hosting an exhibition entitled Christmas Jewels.
Each period room in Claverton Manor, which has been open to the public since 1961, will be decorated with typical gifts and decorations that were ‘precious’ to the early Americans.
The museum is billing the exhibition as a family day out, as children will be able to find the ‘Emerald Elves’, which are hiding throughout the museum, and leave their Christmas wishes with the festive fairies on hand.
Between 18.00 and 20.30 on 15 December the house and grounds will be illuminated by 1 000 candle lanterns.
During this period of illumination families will be able to explore the 1820’s manor, listen to live Christmas music and feast on traditional stateside treats.
Those in the region may also want to pay a visit to the Avon Valley Railway Station, which is hosting a visitor day on 25 November, where enthusiasts can witness an original steam engine in action.
