New interactive attraction at North Somerset Museum
11 October 2007
North Somerset Museum opened its new interactive attraction this week.
The brightly coloured gallery space Archaeo-zone is designed to stimulate interest and excitement in archaeology for people of all ages.
Councillor Ian Peddlesden, who is an executive at the museum, said: ‘Archaeo-Zone is a great new idea from the museum to help children develop historical enquiry and interpretation skills, as well as encourage their knowledge and understanding of the past’.
He added that Archaeo-Zone is an addition to a series of new interactive areas that ‘bring the museum to life’.
Children that visit the exhibition can dress up in replica Roman or Anglo-Saxon clothing, use feely bags with mystery objects inside, make brass rubbings and use a magnetic jigsaw.
The display also includes pull-out trays with replica and real artefacts to handle, such as pottery shards, coins and flint implements.
North Somerset Museum is open between 10 am and 4.30 pm and is located on Burlington Street in Weston-super-Mare.
